In Workington, we aim to treat all our patients promptly, courteously and in complete confidence.
At the start of 2021, the five Workington GP practices merged into one town-wide practice to ensure sustainable primary care provision for Workington.
All patients in Workington are now registered with James Street Group Practice.
We continue to have five sites Oxford Street, Orchard House, Solway, James Street, and Beechwood.
Clinical appointments are currently provided from our Orchard House, Beechwood and James Street sites. Patients can be asked to attend any of the sites and see any GP for an appointment. Patients are told which site to attend when they are booked for their appointment.
Our COVID vaccination clinics take place in Solway site.
Oxford Street site is the base for our Medicines Hub, providing a single point of service for all prescription needs.
Our practice team includes GPs, Nurse Practitioners, Nurses, Health Care Assistants, and other associated healthcare professionals. In addition to this, as a training practice we also have GP Registrars – qualified doctors who are training in General Practice. We are also a training practice for Foundation doctors – these are qualified doctors still in their formal hospital training, who also spend some time in General Practice. You may sometimes see one of these doctors.
This team is supported by a management team of our Locality Lead and Service Delivery Leads, as well as our administrative team including general administration, reception, medicines management, and cleaning teams.
We offer a full general practice service as well as specialist clinics for diabetics, asthma sufferers, and those with heart disease. We also offer minor ailments and minor surgery clinics, a travel clinic, counselling, drug and alcohol services, and child health and immunisation clinics.
The practice offers a range of appointments daily with GPs and other health care professionals. Appointments are available in the morning and the afternoon, Monday to Friday, between the hours of 08.30 and 18.00. Appointments can be booked over the telephone from 08.00 every morning.
The area served by the practice is in the district covered by Cumbria CCG. Cumbria CCG is responsible for ensuring you get all the services you need. Follow this link to view the guide to Primary Care Services or get the information you need at from the NHS website.
