We know this year while covid-19 is circulating in our community, people are keen to get their flu jab as early as possible. We are getting lots of calls about it.
Please be patient as we work through this year’s flu vaccine programme in Workington.
We want to be open with you about how we are working.
Every year the vaccine arrives in batches from the manufacturers between September and the end of November.
We are vaccinating our patients in a prioritised way, starting with those for whom infection with a flu virus would pose the biggest risk to their health.
There are 2 different vaccines, one for those over 65 and one for all other adults. Our first delivery is for those over the age of 65 who were ‘shielding’ during the recent months of lockdown.
Then we’ll move onto the vaccination of
- People in care homes
- the housebound
- younger ‘shielded’ patients,
- pregnant women
- people with chronic illnesses
- patients with learning disability
- health and care workers
The government has advised that those patients between the ages of 50 and 64, who do not have any ongoing health problems, will not be vaccinated before November.
There’s no reason to worry about getting a vaccine if you require one – just please bear with us while we work our way through it.
How can you help?
Make sure your surgery has your up-to-date contact numbers, look out for your invitation, follow the instructions when the time arrives, remember to wear clothes you can easily expose your arm in, you will have to wear a face mask and you will be expected to social distance in the queue.
Flu Vaccination sessions for Workington patients are planned in the surgeries and in the following community settings in the coming weeks but because of the need for social distancing, only those with appointments can be seen. Patients will be invited to these sessions. There is no need to call.
