You might hear in the news that weight loss injections can be prescribed by your GP from June 2025.
Whilst this is true, you must meet a strict criteria for your GP to be able to prescribe them to you.
To avoid wasting GP appointments and disappointment please make sure that you meet the strict criteria below before requesting any appointment for weight loss medication.
YOU MUST HAVE
• A BMI (Body Mass Index) over 40, (or 37.5 if from a minority ethnic background) you can check your BMI using the online calculator below, your height and weight will be checked by our clinical staff at any appointment, so please ensure this is accurate.
• You must also have at least 4 out of these 5 conditions
o- Hypertension (high blood pressure) needing medication
o- Sleep Apnoea (Confirmed at a sleep clinic)
o- Type 2 Diabetes
o- Cardiovascular disease (Heart disease, vascular disease or stroke)
o- Hypercholesterolaemia (high Cholesterol)
If you do not have a BMI over 40 and have at least four of the conditions listed above you do not meet the criteria for NHS GP Prescribing of the weight loss injection.
